About

Over a decade at the intersection of finance, operations, and judgment.

I spend most of my time answering one question for the people I work with: can this number actually be trusted, and what should you do because of it. That's shown up as pricing insurance risk in Nairobi, managing a live equity portfolio in Kentucky, mentoring the analysts who worked alongside me, and building the models that told a sponsor their construction budget was already short before the first shovel went in the ground. Whatever the room, the job is the same: turn uncertain, incomplete information into a decision someone can stand behind, and a process someone can actually run.

Kevin Otieno Okeyo
BACKGROUND

The short version.

Finance, investment, and risk professional with an MSc in Finance (University of Kentucky, Gatton College of Business), a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science (Kenyatta University), and current CFA Level I candidacy. Over a decade of experience across finance, operations, and analytics, including eight years in professional roles spanning commercial insurance underwriting and business development, active equity portfolio management, corporate FP&A, and independent financial-strategy consulting, spanning Kenya, the United States, and remote engagements globally. Alongside the modeling work, I've built and refined the underwriting scorecards, reconciliation controls, and reporting processes that let a team run without me in the room, the operational backbone that usually gets less credit than the number it supports. I hold the FMVA® (Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst) charter from the Corporate Finance Institute, and I served as a Senior Domain Expert evaluating AI-generated financial outputs for Mercor.io through June 2026. My active engagements today are independent financial and strategy consulting alongside expert-consulting work for Catalant.

What sets this combination apart is range: quantitative modeling (Python, SQL, DCF and LBO construction, sensitivity engines) paired with qualitative, client-facing judgment built across underwriting, brokerage, and board advisory. Few practitioners carry both the modeling depth and the commercial instinct to know which number actually matters to the person making the decision.

WHAT I BRING TO A TEAM

Beyond the analysis.

01

I've sat on both sides of the table

Underwriting taught me how a lender or insurer actually thinks about risk. Advisory and governance work taught me how a founder, a board, or an investment committee actually hears a recommendation. I build for the audience in the room, not just the analysis on the screen.

02

I don't wait to be asked the hard question

The eco-resort model I built surfaced a construction budget gap and a debt coverage shortfall before the sponsor's own team caught either one. I'd rather find the problem in the spreadsheet than have someone else find it in a covenant breach.

03

I carry a book of business, and I develop the people around me

Zero attrition across a 130-account portfolio wasn't luck. It came from showing up consistently for renewal conversations most brokers treat as routine, and from mentoring the junior analysts on my portfolio team, reviewing their models and pushing their research until it held up on its own. That same instinct, for the relationship and the person behind the number, shows up in every advisory engagement I take on.

04

I put my own work behind my name

Published research, sourced case studies, and a track record that traces back to an actual model or account, not a claim. If you're deciding whether to bring someone in, a paper trail available for verification.

MISSION

Decision-ready leadership, engineered for scrutiny.

To give investors, boards, and operators financial, operational, and strategic judgment rigorous enough to bear real decisions, translated clearly enough that no one in the room has to take it on faith.

VISION

Rigor as the baseline, applied without exception.

A practice where institutional-grade discipline, stress-tested assumptions, sound process design, attribution-checked results, is simply how finance, strategy, and operations get run, for a first-time entrepreneur and an investment committee alike.
